About Us

For 85 years, the Woman's Club of Cayce has been serving our community.

Becoming a Member

The Woman’s Club of Cayce meets on the second Tuesday of each month during the months of September through May. The meeting begins with refreshments and fellowship at 5:30 p.m. with the business meeting beginning at 6:00 pm.

We welcome new members who live or work in the Cayce community.  Being a member is a great way to meet your Cayce neighbors, have fun and live the Volunteer Spirit.  Please submit a Getting to Know You form and we'll be in touch about attending your first meeting.

Our History

The Woman’s Club of Cayce was organized in the spring of 1937 in the home of Mrs. S. K. Abbott with 13 charter members. The Club was federated as part of the General Federation of Woman’s Club – South Carolina in September of 1937.

In 1939, the Guignard Family donated the land on which the clubhouse now stands at 701 Oakland Avenue. In 1940, 34 members of the Woman’s Club of Cayce authorized a bank note of $1,000 to build the Clubhouse.   Since then, the building has been in continuous use, serving as one of Cayce’s focal points in the community.

One of the Club’s outstanding accomplishments was the establishment of what is currently the Cayce-West Columbia Library in 1949. It became a reality in 1950 and was the beginning of what was known as the R. H. Smith Library and is now the Cayce-West Columbia Branch Library of the Lexington County Library System. The Club continues its affection for the library by gathering and donating books for the general collection and fundraising.

In 2017, we celebrated our 80th Anniversary, by encouraging our Cayce neighbors in random acts of kindness, during our 80 Days of Kind event.  In January 2018, the City of Cayce presented the club a celebratory Proclamation in honor of our anniversary.

While we contribute to many worthy causes, at the present we provide scholarships to deserving students, assist in providing Cayce school children with positive experiences and support several Christmas in Cayce events. The history of our organization attests to the positive and nurturing role our club has played in achieving goals of unity and service, growth, and progress within our community.

Proud Member of GFWC and GFWC-SC

The Woman’s Club of Cayce is affiliated with the state and national Women’s Club associations. GFWC clubs and clubwomen are the fabric that binds not only the Federation, but the communities in which they live and work.

By Living the Volunteer Spirit, GFWC clubwomen transform lives each day, not simply with monetary donations, but with hands-on tangible projects that provide immediate impact.

Founded in 1898, The General Federation of Women’s Clubs of South Carolina points with pride to more than 1,400 members in 58 clubs around the state.  The state headquarters is located at 1511 Laurel Street, Columbia in the historic, antebellum Sims-Stackhouse Mansion.
